Uh Oh Politics

It's kinda like guitar hero, just when you think you've had enough...It pulls you back in!
I have a confession, no not just a confession, a problem. It has been some time in the making and I am somewhat ashamed to admit it, but I, well, I'm a PA. Yep, a Political Addict. I'm so ashamed.

I know! I know! of all the things to become addicted too! Why couldn't it be something exciting like crystal meth...at least then I get some sort of high. Or sex, at least then some sort of conquest or satisfaction.

But the political monkey hangs a peculiar collar upon the back of its slave, enticing with neither highs nor satisfactions...but a continuous novella of drama dripping with implications of power, steaming with smelly intrigues of this nation's fate.

There are worse vices, methinks. My brother Pete, I suspect, is addicted to People magazine...an contagion spread to him from his wife; he could hardly avoid the vice, given the narcotic sense of satisfaction that comes from witnessing the disgraceful fall of all those smiling Hollywood folk. Idn't it grand knowing that the famous and wealthy have terminal personal problems too? Big Problems (Lindsay Lohan dreams of cocain castles in the clouds...Britney Spears seems to be living in them). --There is some irony in the fact that those whom profit from having thier staged character faces sold to us via mass media are also subject to having their real personal lives sold to us as well, for tabloid profit.

My political addiction really my fault though. Stupid classes in my undergrad major made me think that I might actually be qualified to understand what is going on in elections, the economy and war. (FYI-I was an International Political Economy major...with minors in English and Portuguese--very lucritive degrees all.)

It's a scandal. Political Science classes are sold to us naive many who are mathmatically challenged, they recommend it to us like it might actually be useful somehow...as in qualify us with a skill, prepare us for a job, or even a qualified opinion. But alas, there is no laborer that benefits from having political science degree. Universities hand them out as if they've given us something for our money. And we then hold them out as if we are qualified to comment on anything and everything happening in the society around us.

So now with my soft science background I'm cursed to walk the earth with an opinion. Nobody will pay me for these opinions. Fewer want to hear them. So those of us who continue to delude ourselves in a confidence that our opinions must have some monetary value to another inevitably enter law school: To learn how to charge people to listen to our opinions on problems.

Anyway, that is a digression. The real issue is my addiction to political news and blogs. I think that the Republican race is soo interesting....but for the life of me cannot figure out why it even matters! I'm not voting in any primary elections and therefore have zero influence upon who the Democratic or Republican nominees are. Thus, I might as well wait for everyone else to choose my candidate for me before I start to care.

But it's like a novella! Once you start following candidates day to day...you simply cannot go a day without getting the new gossip.

Help.
